Kitten and Mother Rescued from Recycling Container in Extraordinary Operation

A kitten and her mom were rescued from a recycling container full of cardboard in Liverpool after being trapped for several days. The operation took two days and was described as one of the most extraordinary rescues an RSPCA officer has taken part in. The kitten, named Biff, is now being hand-reared at the RSPCA’s Wirral and Chester branch care. Attempts are being made to trap the mom and get her health checked and neutered.

St Joseph’s Primary School Raises Funds and Awareness for Mayhew Animal Charity

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Maida Vale raised over £400 for animal welfare charity Mayhew. Youngsters dressed up as cats or dogs for the fun event. Former pupil Helena Atkinson organised the fundraiser, where participants donated £1 and contributed pet-related goods to a pet food bank. The aim was to raise awareness of animal welfare and support the charity in its work helping people and their pets in London. WSAVA Launches Certificate in Pain Management to Improve Companion Animal Health and Welfare

WSAVA and Zoetis have partnered to launch a Certificate in Pain Management for vets and nurses, based on updated Global Guidelines for Pain. The course, which covers understanding and assessing pain, preventing and treating pain, and pain management in practice, is free and globally available online. The WSAVA hopes that the course will raise awareness of the importance of pain management for companion animal health and welfare, and provide practical help to veterinary professionals who want to refresh or deepen their knowledge on the subject. The International Veterinary Academy for Pain Management is supporting the dissemination of the Certificate.
