RSPCA Seeks Person Seen on CCTV Dumping Cats Outside York Rescue Centre

Cat and 10-week-old kitten abandoned on RSPCA animal centre’s doorstep

The RSPCA is investigating after two cats were found abandoned outside an animal centre.

The charity is appealing for information after CCTV showed the cats – an adult female and her 10-week-old kitten – being dumped on the doorstep at RSPCA York Animal Home in Landing Lane, York, at 7.30pm on 27 January.

A spokesperson from the centre, said: “When our staff arrived at work on 28 January they found the two kittens left on the doorstep in a plastic pet carrier. They’d been out all night in the cold.

“They were both initially very nervous but have now settled in well and are being well looked after by our staff and volunteers.

“We checked our CCTV which shows someone pulling up outside in a white car before getting out, bringing the carrier to the doorstep, putting it down and then running off. They had their hood up so we don’t have a clear view of their face.”

The cats – Cora and Machli – have been seen by the vet and are in good condition. They’re now getting lots of TLC from staff and will soon be looking for new homes.

Inspector Claire Mitchell is now investigating. She said: “Times have been tough and we know that some families are struggling to take care of their pets. However it isn’t acceptable to abandon cats like this, especially in the evening when the rescue centre was closed, and these cats could easily have been hurt or fallen ill.

“We understand that circumstances change and sometimes people have to make really difficult decisions about their pets. However we’d urge pet owners who might be finding it difficult to care for their pets to ask for help.

“I’d be keen to hear from anyone who might recognise this person or car, or who recognises the cats or knows where they came from, to get in touch with us by calling our inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”

I’m glad they are okay. Maybe the guy who dropped them off thought he was doing the right thing. I’ve seen plenty worse when it comes to cats. Glad this post wasn’t one of them.

They should have taken the kitties to the shelter when’s it was open – instead of when it was closed – the person probably didn’t have any money and was stupid – ignorant of the cats safety – at least the cats are safe now – thank you for accepting them into the shelter and helping them find stable safe homes!!
