Tabatha Loves the Land Down Under :) Part 2

Hello to everyone! I hope you are keeping yourselves safe and well 🙂 Now as you all know, Kat and I are heading to Australia this month for our fourth visit to this amazing country (we are very, very lucky). My previous post was about our first visit, this post is about our second visit and you must believe me when this kitty says it changed our lives forever.

So…lets rewind back five years 🙂 The anticipation is immense, our nerves are getting the better of us, Kat’s backpack is packed ready for a whole year of adventure. What will happen? What will we see? Will we get lost in the vast desert? The only way to find out was to board that plane bound for Sydney. I remember at that time, Kat didn’t want to stay in the UK and as her small travel companion (with no need for a visa) I was very happy (and nervous!) to join her.

We say our goodbyes at Manchester Airport, grab something to eat, wait around for a couple of hours and then the time came…I can vaguely remember looking out of the plane window to the grey and miserable weather of Manchester, hoping Sydney would not be the same! As the plane left the ground I remember feeling relieved and quite excited-there really is a whole world out there! And this small kitty was going to see it!

To cut a long flight short (24 hours!) we arrived at Sydney airport ready for our first true yearly adventure 🙂 We met with Jean and Alison (two of the loveliest people you could wish to meet) and headed back to their place for a much needed cup of tea and sleep.

We stayed with them for the first month which was perfect as we were able to find our feet (or in my case, paws) and see a lot of the major attractions in Sydney, such as the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge (I’m getting excited typing this!)

We were chatting one night and Alison had the genius idea of suggesting Kat book into the local hostel, which was right by the beach in Cronulla (south Sydney). It was one of the best moves Kat has ever made in her life 🙂 It was there, right at that moment our lives changed. We were immediately invited to drink goon (Aussie wine out of a bag) and chat (and party!) with travelers from all over the world. But these people became more than good friends, they became our family and Cronulla became our true home (away from home). We began to meet more locals and they would show us the hidden gems Sydney (and it’s suburbs) had to offer. After working, Kat’s 27th birthday, Christmas day and New Year (Sydney Harbour is soooo Amazing at New Year-if you haven’t been-go!) we made the executive decision to travel the East Coast…

We booked a flight to Cairns and another adventure began all the way down to Melbourne. We visited (in no particular order), Rockhampton, Airlie Beach, Magnetic Island, Whitsunday Islands, Noosa Heads, the Great Barrier Reef, Hervey Bay, Mission Beach, the Sunshine Coast, Surfers Paradise, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, the Great Ocean Road….etc. It was amazing 🙂

Of course we couldn’t visit Australia without seeing the West Coast, so after our lovely tour of the east side it was time to head to the west side!

For those of you who don’t know, Perth is one of the most isolated cities in the world, which if you are used to having lots of people around, can be quite daunting ,but Perth really is a beautiful and clean city right on the Swan River 🙂

Of course we met more people (as well as meeting old friends) and had a great time! We went to the local beaches, visited the local bars, saw the sights and added another brilliant chapter to our second Australian visit. Some of the friends we made in Australia are still our good friends today, which after five years, does mean a lot and we are looking forward to visiting them.

After this brilliant time Kat and I wanted to continue the adventure…so our next stop was New Zealand 🙂

After all life is a journey not a destination, right?

Keep enjoying your lives everyone!
