Your Friday Art Gato

Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a holiday that originated in Mexico, is celebrated on November 1 & 2, when the souls of departed loved ones return to join their living friends and family.

Families build elaborate altars, called ofrendas, of flowers, sweet drinks, and sugar candies to nourish the dead and give them strength upon their return. The cat altar might include tuna, kibble treats, canned pumpkin, and bouquets of fresh catnip!

Here are my four cats that have passed on, and that I miss SO much! I drew them based on the tradition of the Dia de los Muertos skeletons. These animated calacas dance and cavort to celebrate life.
