Get Meowt of Here!’ See Moment Milo the Kitten is Rescued From Behind a Wall

Video captures moment four-month-old kitten Milo is freed after falling into a blocked up chimney in London

A curious kitten sparked a rescue mission after going to explore his home and falling into a blocked chimney stack!

Milo’s worried owner contacted London Fire Brigade for help after the four-month-old kitten ended up in a spot of bother while exploring his Hounslow home.

A local crew went to the home – in Victoria Avenue on Monday evening (23 August) – and called the RSPCA for help.

Animal rescue officer Louis Horton went to lend a hand. He said: “Milo had ventured into one of the bedrooms in the loft of the house and wandered into a cupboard where he found a little hole that accessed the blocked chimney. The inquisitive little kitten went to investigate and took a tumble 8ft down into the bottom of the chimney.

“The fireplace had been blocked for years so there was no easy way to reach him and, despite trying to reach down from the hole at the top, they couldn’t get to him. They knocked some bricks out of the chimney further down and out popped a little face.

“Milo soon made a dart for it and dashed under the bed. We were able to catch him and I gave him a check over but, thankfully, he wasn’t injured; although he certainly used up one of his nine lives!”

Leading firefighter Gareth Pierce, who was at the scene, said: “We were called to reports of a kitten stuck inside a chimney. This was a tricky rescue as the adventurous kitten was not easy to reach. The crew worked diligently and patiently to free him, and were pleased to return him safe and well to his owner.

“We would always encourage people to call the RSPCA in the first instance if they see an animal stuck or in distress. Firefighters love animals too and we are always happy to assist if our specialist equipment is required, as in this case.”

Milo was returned to his very relieved owner and, hopefully, he won’t be going on any more adventures into the chimney any time soon!
