Friday Art Cat: Pandora the Bengal

FRIDAY ART CAT

Pandora the Bengal

This is Pandora, my Bengal.  I was struck by her sitting in such a beautiful position with her back to the window.  The sun streaming in behind her on the left lights her semi-transparent ears to a lovely salmon pink.

She is rendered here in Pastel Pencils on Murano Paper.  The pastel pencils I use are those by Caran D’ache, as these are quite soft, highly pigmented and therefore extremely high quality.

Here’s a picture of her head which I completed first.  In fact I almost like this better than the one of her whole body – there is something enticing about looking at an unfinished piece of work as one’s mind automatically tries to complete the whole thing…

I love the effect of the pastel line on textured paper. Your drawings always convey the expressiveness of a cat’s face and body posture, but the pastels really bring these qualities out.
