WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Zoe has been making art with our shed whiskers, which she has been collecting over the years. She put them on origami paper and stuck them in some slime that she made.
But she doesn’t know that we actually want to keep them so that we can put them under our pillow for the whisker fairy to collect them and reward us with a treat.
Here is a picture of the whisker fairy:
We think it is a miracle that those tiny little wings of hers have managed to hold her up for so long considering that she is quite heavy for her size. Her main body is made out of slime so that when she finds a whisker she sticks it into her body. We think that is pretty cool.
Every time Zoe finds a whisker on the floor she says “Aha! I got one!”
And then she puts them in a box at the top of her shelf in her bedroom where we cant reach them.
[Lola] I don’t think Zoe knows about the whisker fairy…
[Sasha] No, I don’t think so either. Otherwise she would let us keep our shed whiskers.
[Lola] I think she would understand because it’s kind of like the humans and their tooth fairy.
[Sasha] Yeah, but with the tooth fairy all the teeth are the same value. But with the whisker fairy you get double the prize if it is an especially nice one and you get quadruple the prize if the whisker is a white whisker.
[Lola] Right. That is why I always get a double prize and you don’t!
[Sasha] What is that supposed to mean?!?
[Lola] I’m just saying in a clever way that my whiskers are nicer than yours.
[Sasha] Ha ha… very funny… My whiskers are gorgeous! Here is a collage of my whiskers:
[Lola] And this is a collage of my even more gorgeous whiskers:
FUN FACT:
Cats’ whiskers (also called vibrissae) are embedded more deeply in their skin than the shorter top-fur coat. Sensory organs at the end of the whiskers, called proprioceptors, send signals to the brain and nervous system. This organ makes the cat’s whiskers sensitive to tiny changes in the cat’s environment. A cat has whiskers on either side of its nose and upper lip and above each of the eyes and sometimes on the back of its front legs. When a cat is resting and happy, its whiskers won’t be doing much. If the whiskers suddenly bunch up and lie flat against the cat’s face, the cat may be scared.

That explains that sometimes I find shed whiskers of my two – and the next day they are gone … It’s the whiskers fairy!
My tom only has white whiskers, my cat only black ones.
The white ones are worth more, but we don’t think that’s totally fair. Most of our whiskers are black.
I haven’t yet seen any of Sunshine’s whiskers – they seem to all be on his face.
Susie
Maybe Sunshine grabs them for the Whisker Fairy before you ever get a chance to see them!
Verrrrry interesting!
Thanks!!
what a beautiful cat! terrific article!
Thank you! Some people think the markings on our faces are funny looking, but we think we’re beautiful!
I never realized a cat’s whiskers fell out. Never found any from my cat. Maybe the whisker fairy got them before I found them. Liked this post. Hope there are more.
Thank you so much! You can check out our other posts here, on our own blog: https://2bloggingcats.wordpress.com/

A very good post. Liked it a lot. The fun facts you added are interesting.
Thank you! On our own blog ( https://2bloggingcats.wordpress.com/ ), each post has a Fun Fact and a Video Pick, after the part where we describe What We’ve Been Up To. It works out well for us to use this same structure every time.

Sasha&Lola, can’t wait for your next blog.
Hahahaha! LOVED the pic of the whisker fairy! It proper made me laugh…
Zoe (our human) is a good artist. She could draw the Whisker Fairy even though she has never seen it.
She is a good artist! Really made me giggle. She deserves a scoobie snack!
Very interesting!
Thanks a lot!
This was dee-light-ful in every way–the concept, the artwork, the cat’s responses. Thanks for a great read!
That’s so nice of you to say! 🙂
I did think of mini tooth picks with whiskers but they bend too easily. First rate post. Thanks for the ideas.
Jean

I very much liked the video at the end…
Thank you. Yes, the video is cool. Most humans don’t realize how important our whiskers are to us cats. They are not just there on our faces for decoration!
My kitty leaves them for us and well for them to get stuck in mom’s feet! I usually save them and keep them in my journal.
That’s neat. Do you tape them in?
