Occasionally, the Art Cat likes to hang out in the kitchen to see what I’m cooking. If I add an ingredient to a simmer pot, she sniffs the air and then looks at me like I’ve just made a horrible cooking error.
She has a different relationship to the food processor where her reaction is more like measured caution and loathing than curiosity.
No matter the culinary activity – chopping, simmering, whatever – the cat positions herself directly behind me. Sometimes I trip over her. I’m not sure what she’s plotting, like maybe she’ll benefit from a dropped ingredient. It’s not as if she gets a smorgasbord of human food ever. She’s on a strict cat food diet. Why is she interested in my meal at all? Maybe she was a chef in a previous life.
Does your cat like to hang out with you in the kitchen? Let me know.

Me….hang out in the kitchen? Not likely. Only when I hear the sound of the spoon on our ceramic dishes….then I must be first to the kitchen and give mom the , *I’m starving and may pass out from lack of food* look. MOL

Haha! I know that look!
Such a little sweetheart of a pic!
My 3 boys looove the kitchen, especially the oven with a chicken roasting …
Thank you! I just have the one cat who hangs out while I’m cooking, and we’re vegetarians, so there’s not even a meat smell to entice her. 🙂
Love your painting! Yes, my cat will sometimes trip me in the kitchen too. It is usually his tactic to get me to feed him his food if I’m ignoring him… What I find interesting is that sometimes he will peer into the hot oven when I open the door – just like a little kid! I find myself telling him that it’s hot and be careful – like he can understand what I’m saying. lol! 🙂
They really like to know what’s going on… 🙂
Hmmm…. I bet Kitty wants a sardine/tuna/catnip smoothie!! LOL!! 🙂 😀

Hahahaha funny cat and nice article. Well as i have had many cats it depends on cats. I had one cat that loved steaks so she was always sneaking around kitchen and if my mother made the mistake to get out of the kitchen without closing the door then Jasmine the cat was getting in and taking a steak for herself….I let you guess the reaction of my mother and the sprints of Jasmine…. Then i had another cat, Pepere which was basically the cat of my cousin but as he had to move he brought it to the house of my aunt. Pepere loved fish and as in France it is a tradition to cook fish on Fridays he was coming in the kitchen and his miaou sound like poisson( fish in french) So we were imitating him Poisson Poisson….and of course he had his part of fish.
Haha! That all sounds like a great idea for a children’s book.
kitty wants to cook a meal for you <3 lovely artwork. sweet cat.
Thanks, Patricia!
Lovely art.
Thanks so much!
Some cats just like to observe their favourite humans’ activities – cooking, gardening, doing things on the computer, doing things under the bonnet of the car, but usually not cleaning because it’s too disruptive. They give the impression of trying to work out what on earth you’re up to. If, as with cooking and gardening, the activity brings about interesting smells, so much the better.
That definitely describes this one. She’s always observing our activities. 🙂
