‘Sahara’ photographed by Alexis-Kimonas Kokkinaris, Greece – 2016 iCatCare Cat Naps photography competition winner
Sahara was found along with her sister in a town near Athens. They were rescued by Christina, who volunteers for an animal welfare organisation, and taken to a foster home where Alexis-Kimonas was asked to photograph them for their adoption ads. Before leaving, Lena, one of the ladies in the foster home, whispered to him ‘please take a photo of Sahara but very quietly’ – Sahara was sleeping in her palm!
Lena later adopted Sahara but very sadly when Sahara was just one and a half she was diagnosed with anaemia and passed away.
Alexis-Kimonas kept in touch with Lena who was so thankful she had this unique photograph to remember her by. Sahara is still missed and she will always have a special place in their hearts.
