People’s Postcode Lottery Ambassador Visits Warrington Cats in Need of Homes

A recent visit to Cats Protection’s Warrington Adoption Centre by People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt has prompted a renewed plea to find homes for cats and kittens in need.

Judie visited the centre on Friday 29 April, ahead of an event which saw 420 neighbours in Lowton share a £7.9 million jackpot as part of the lottery’s Postcode Millions prize for April.

Judie spent time meeting the centre team to learn more about their work, which includes taking care of cats and matching them with new owners.

She said: “By playing People’s Postcode Lottery, players have helped to raise over £4 million for Cats Protection since 2018, helping the charity care for thousands of cats.

“It was amazing to see the level of care the staff and volunteers put in to ensure each cat and kitten is happy and healthy before homing.

“This includes making sure they receive any veterinary treatment they need, including neutering and microchipping, and in some cases carrying out tailored enrichment or socialisation programmes to help get cats ready for adoption.

“When the time comes, cats and kittens are carefully matched with prospective adopters to help ensure a happy forever home.”

One of the cats and kittens currently at the centre, who was there for Judie’s visit, is five-year-old Thumper. A firm favourite with the centre team, she is a friendly girl who came in due to a change in her owner’s circumstances.

Having recovered from an operation to check that she was neutered, Thumper is looking for a quiet home, ideally without children or other pets, where she can settle and put her paws up.

The centre’s Deputy Manager, Emma Harris, added: “It was brilliant to welcome Judie to the centre. We had a great time introducing her to some of the cats currently awaiting adoption and showing her how support from People’s Postcode Lottery players helps us continue caring for cats in need.”
