RSPCA and Fire Services Rescue Mum and Kittens After Cat Gives Birth in Conservatory Guttering

The stray mum cat and kittens are now doing well in RSPCA care

The RSPCA and fire services rescued a cat and her five kittens after the stray moggy gave birth in the conservatory gutters at a property in Birmingham.

The animal welfare charity was called on Tuesday (12 April) when the homeowners heard a noise coming from outside their bedroom window. On inspection, they realised that a stray cat was struggling to give birth in the guttering above their conservatory.

They managed to confine two kittens and tried to massage some warmth and life into them and then contacted the RSPCA for help.

Inspector Adam Bailey and Ward End Fire and Rescue Services attended the property in Bucklands End Lane in Birmingham.

Adam said: “The mum cat had decided to give birth to her five kittens in the conservatory guttering of the property and with heavy rain due to set in we knew we had to get to them fast!

“Alongside fire and rescue, I managed to get up onto the roof of the conservatory and slowly but surely contain the mother using a reach and rescue pole and then pick up each kitten and bring them to safety.

“The cat is called Storm and was microchipped but it appears as though the details are out-of-date as we have been unable to get hold of an owner.”

Storm, a three-year-old tabby and white cat and her five newborn kittens are now in the care of the RSPCA’s Newbrook Farm Animal Centre where they are receiving some much-needed care and attention. The kittens have been named Rain, Thunder, Misty, Foggy and Hail.

If no owner comes forward for them they will be rehomed when ready.
