Purr-fect home sought for Britain’s Loneliest Cat

Poor Flash is facing his third Christmas in RSPCA care

Flash has been named Britain’s loneliest cat as he faces his third Christmas in RSPCA care.

The five-year-old black and white puss was just a youngster when he was rescued in May 2019 as part of an RSPCA investigation.

Staff at Felledge Animal Centre, County Durham, have been looking after Flash ever since his rescue. Catherine Neasham, Felledge cattery supervisor. said: “When Flash came into our care he was severely emaciated and very under-socialised.

“He’s spent almost four years with us and the team all think the world of him. He’s super friendly and very cheeky, but we love to spend time with him.

“Although we adore him, we were thrilled when his case concluded earlier this year and we were able to put him up for adoption in November. However, he’s had no interest and we’ve not received a single application to give him a home which is heartbreaking.

“We had hoped that after spending so many Christmases with us, he’d finally get a chance to spend this Christmas in a wonderful home surrounded by love and affection but, sadly, we’re running out of time to make his wish come true.”

Flash is a very friendly puss who loves to spend time with people (video) although his previous life experiences have had an impact on him. He’s looking for experienced cat owners who can help him settle in and give him time to understand that he will be fed regularly and he doesn’t need to worry about stealing it.

He can sometimes be overstimulated so will need a home without young children and with owners who can give him his space while he adjusts after spending so long in the cattery.

He’d like to be the only pet in the home. We don’t believe he’s ever been outside before but he loves to explore so it would be nice if he could have a garden to play in, away from any busy roads as he isn’t very streetwise.

Catherine added: “While the festive season may be a time to join together with family and friends, many animals will be waiting patiently to find their new family in one of our rescue centres.
