For those who work with unowned cats, we want to highlight the incredible work that you do to help them. We also want to show you that you are not alone. There are so many of you working hard out there and it’s time to recognise your efforts! Here we have provided a world map that you can go into and point out your position. You may want to add a photo or a comment about your local community and all that you do to help unowned cats in your area. You may just want to say ‘hello’, so everyone knows you are there for cats! We want to light up this map to celebrate locations and communities that take care of unowned cats. (See map below and point out your position.)
Welcome to International Cat Care’s Unowned Cats section. This project has been in development for many years and we are extremely proud to be able to present this valuable resource to those who need it. In the following pages, you will find a host of information about caring for feral, community and street cats and unowned pet cats.
International Cat Care has created Cat Friendly Solutions for Unowned Cats to support those who work on the front line in helping unowned cats with information and guidance all in one place. It has been carefully collated, gathering together International Cat Care’s feline expertise and great things from other organisations working with unowned cats.
We all need to help each other and, in this difficult area, to be able to see things from the cat’s point of view and understand how the experience is affecting each cat. All cats are different and International Cat Care hopes to help you to feel equipped to make decisions and achieve the best outcome for each cat’s welfare.
Together, with this resource, we can evolve our practice and put cats at the forefront. By providing Cat Friendly Solutions for Unowned Cats we can ensure that every cat’s individual needs are met.
The first step on this journey is to look at cats and their place in your community with fresh eyes.
I am the feline behaviour specialist at feline charity ‘International Cat Care’. We are about engaging, educating and empowering people throughout the world to improve the health and welfare of cats by sharing advice, training and passion.
