National Cat Centre Promotes pet Welfare for World Animal Day

The belief that teaching children about cat welfare puts them on the path to becoming responsible pet owners has led the UK’s largest cat charity to build on its strong work in this area with an informative new video to celebrate World Animal Day (Sunday, 4 October).

During lockdown restrictions, the education team at Cats Protection built on its suite of tools and materials to deliver positive cat care messages to children and support parents at home. In particular, its Moggy Modules learning packs and online talks became a real hit with schools and families, while the feline focus packs targeted teen learners.

Now that children have returned to learning, the team is extending its support for teachers, parents and community groups with a range of free virtual cat welfare talks.

The video walks children through the National Cat Adoption Centre, explains the work of Cats Protection and introduces some cats in care. Viewers will also see some great ideas to get involved and make a difference.

Cats Protection’s Community Education Officer, Jonathan Ramsden, said: “Our free education talks promote responsible pet ownership to audiences of all ages. It’s so heartening to hear people say that they will make a change because of something they learned in our talks. Even the smallest gesture can make a big difference to a cat’s life.”

Released to celebrate World Animal Day, this latest video would be ideal for a school assembly, community group or for anyone to use to encourage more responsible pet ownership: https://youtu.be/4emtsaBIPgA

World Animal Day celebrates all animals by working to improve animal welfare standards around the globe. Cats Protection’s vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs.
