The Friday Art Cat: “Mono Cat”

FRIDAY ART CAT

“Mono Cat”

This image was drawn by me in ink pen on white paper – with I’ll admit, some previous pencil marks that were rubbed out afterwards!

Mono coloured, or black and white images can be very striking, but what I like most about how this turned out is that the right side of the cat is not drawn in, but your eye completes the image automatically. As always, let me know what you think please.

I like the play of positive and negative space. It reminds me of Japanese ink brush paintings, where spaces that are white/light-colored are only suggested by the absence of color, or by the faintest of lines. Nice drawing.

Thanks – It’s something I think I’d like to play with more – the unfinished look, leaving something for the viewer to do ?

Beautiful. ? It’s often what you don’t put in a drawing that makes it, that’s what I find hard.

That’s really cool! I love your shading and the way you captured the stark coloration of the cat, yet still showed the feline delicacy.
