The Friday Art Cat: Korat

FRIDAY ART CAT

Korat

Korat cat.  Graphite and watercolour paint on paper, 7 x 10 “.

I discovered this amazing cat breed at a specialist breeder at the GCCF cat show in Woking, UK.  While I was snapping away with my camera, one of her delightfully small, agile cats was climbing everywhere – apparently living in 3 dimensions is common for this type !

The Korat is also known as the “Blue cat of Thailand”.  According to the GCCF website, “the earliest existing records of the cats of Thailand can be seen in the Bangkok National Library, and are known as the Cat-Book Poems. The Korat entry relates that:  ‘The base of each hair, Is the colour of a cloud’ and Korat eyes are ‘Like dew when dropped on the leaf of a lotus’.”

It sounds so gorgeously evocative!
