Kittenhood Photography Competition Winner – Sabine Schmidt

2018 ‘Kittenhood’ photography competition winning image – photographed by Sabine Schmidt from Germany

‘I am a cat behaviour consultant and from time to time I foster cats and their kittens in my home, in order to socialize the kittens.

I introduce them to and let them experience as much as possible – other animals, household items like vacuum cleaners, trips in the car, handling with myself and others – in the hope that they can live easily in their later homes. And, I always learn something more about cats from them!

This photo shows Kirby and his brother Sunny at eight weeks’ old. After their mother Luna was found abandoned at 6 weeks pregnant and handed into an animal shelter in Iserlohn I offered to take her until after the kittens were born and they were old enough to be rehomed.

Sunny and Kirby now live together with a young couple and I’m pretty sure they are still full of mischief!’

Sabine’s winning image features in the 2019 Kittenhood Calendar which is on sale to raise funds for International Cat Care’s welfare work.
