Purrsday Poetry: Fog Poem // Carl Sandburg

Hi everyone,

Please find below the latest entry in the Purrsday Poetry series shared from The Pretty Poems!

Fog Poem // Carl Sandburg

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

I, too, haven’t read or heard that poem in many years. From 1979 to 1986 I lived near Asheville, North Carolina which is just a short drive from Hendersonville, NC and the Carl Sandburg home which you can tour, is nearby in Flat Rock, NC. The house is open and set up to look as it did when he lived there. His wife raised dairy goats and they are still there. In the days before selfies my husband and I had our picture taken with a great , friendly billy goat. Jim had a curly beard and they could have been brothers…ha, ha. And Jim liked that.
Sadly, not one cat was to be seen but they were probably tucked away in their favorite places.
