Stray cat Left in Distress After one of her Newborn Kittens Goes Missing
- A stray cat recently gave birth to two kittens underneath car
- The parked car was surrounded by a group of youths who were taunting and harassing the cat
- By the time Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officers arrived, one kitten was missing
- Mayhew suspect that someone passing by had taken the kitten not knowing what harm they were causing
- The charity posted an urgent appeal on their social media pages, but unfortunately the kitten was never found
A stray cat recently gave birth to two kittens underneath a parked car near Harlesden in North West London, which was surrounded by a group of youths who were sadly taunting and frightening the feline.
A member of the public noticed the distressed one-year-old, later named Corsa, had given birth to two black and white kittens and was desperately trying to protect her litter by sheltering underneath a car, so they immediately called London-based animal welfare charity, Mayhew, for help.
The charity’s Animal Welfare Officers quickly arrived at the scene and were told that one of Corsa’s newborn kittens was missing.
Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officer, Tania Mazzoni, said: “We were informed that both kittens had been placed in a cardboard box by a member of the public. When mummy cat instinctively tried to protect them, she had taken one of the kittens back underneath the car and had left her other newborn unoccupied in the box. When she returned that kitten was missing.
“We looked everywhere for her newborn, but sadly couldn’t find them. We suspect that someone passing by had taken the kitten, not knowing what harm they were causing. It is very dangerous and life threatening for kittens that young to be separated from their mum.
“We can’t imagine how terrifying and distressing it must have been for Corsa to be giving birth underneath a car that was being ambushed and for one of her kittens to disappear. We strive to improve animal welfare from every possible angle and we actively work with adults and children to educate and promote compassion for animals.”
Knowing that the missing kitten was in danger and needed to be reunited with its mother, Mayhew posted an urgent appeal on their social media pages, but unfortunately the kitten was never found.
Corsa and her remaining newborn kitten, named Vauxhall, were immediately brought back to Mayhew, so they could be health checked at their Community Vet Clinic.
Animal Welfare Officer, Tania Mazzoni, added: “Sadly we never received any information regarding the whereabouts of the missing kitten. If Corsa and her newborn hadn’t been brought into Mayhew, the kitten would have likely become feral.
“This story highlights how important it is to get your pet neutered. We are in the midst of kitten season and bringing in more unwanted kittens every day. We encourage pet owners to get their animals neutered and offer low cost and affordable neutering for cats and dogs at our Community Vet Clinic.”
After receiving medical care and attention from Mayhew’s Vet team and love and socialisation from their Cattery team, Mayhew staff put Corsa and Vauxhall in foster with one of their experienced carers, so they could enjoy a loving home environment until they were ready to find their happily ever after.
Corsa and Vauxhall’s foster carer, Paula, said: “Corsa is possibly the most affectionate cat I’ve ever met. She just can’t get enough love and has the loudest purr. Vauxhall is adorable and just loves to eat and sleep. They are both doing incredibly well considering what they have been through.”
As soon as Mayhew’s Vet team are satisfied mum and her kitten are in good health, they will then be ready for adoption.

Mentality of the youths appals me, but so glad that the Corsa and Vauxhall are safe now. Heres hoping the other kitten will be returned to it’s mom sometime soon.

I do hope that Corsa and Vauxhall can find a forever home that will not seperate them again. They have already had a lifetime’s trauma. Perhaps you could pop them in the post… 😉 They are so adorable and ready for love.

Why do people have to be like this towards animals….im glad Mayhew stepped in once again and looked after mum and kitten till they were ready for their forever home. So sad the other kitten just disappeared..
I’m still hoping the other kitten found a safe place or may even be re United with the others. ?

Cruel children often end up to be cruel adults. Most serial killers first began by hurting dogs, cats, or other domesticated animals. The best thing that could’ve been done at the moment that youths were taunting was to arrest them, give them jail time, and impress upon the ones who can learn from it that this kind of behavior won’t be tolerated. The ones who still laugh and think it’s a giant joke have issues that need a lot more help.
Sadly the way society is going children get away with almost anything as taking actions against youths gets far too often classified as mistreating a child or worse…
It’s a bit like how stray cats without proper socialisation can end up staying feral. :/

Those are our hopes too. You never know the kitten could have wandered off and was found by someone else who is taking good care of her. Let’s hold on to that thought. <3

It makes me furious when I hear about (fill in the ________) being cruel to animals! It makes me so sad to think this cat was trying to give birth & watch over her newborn babies while idiot humans are scaring her half to death in the process!

My second cat, Buddy, was a bottle baby. He was accidentally left behind by his mommy kitty because he was born under a home & fell into a cinderblock. She couldn’t get him out. The owner of the home was a single guy that knew squat about cats but, heard the baby crying under his house. He rescued him & his little eyes weren’t even open, yet. Off to the vet he went.
He was bottle fed & the first thing the tiny gray tabby saw was this 6′ 6″ slender guy with crazy hair. The vet even showed the guy how to teach kitty how to groom & go to the litter box. After six weeks, healthy kitty, still with no name, became more than he could handle (he was a non-sport card dealer & traveled a lot).
I got him (my then husband knew this guy) at seven weeks and the guy shows up at our house with tiny kitty, toys, food and a litterbox house-looking thing with a roof, big enough to handle three cats. It was hysterical. He was a kind guy & liked kitty but, had to run a biz.
I had recently lost my first cat to a car accident & was still grieving. “Buddy” was an adorable child that hugged & purred & loved to be held.
I HOPE that missing kitten was seen by someone, sitting alone in the box & they “thought” they were rescuing an abandoned kitten. I want to believe the best… ❤

I don’t have any cats, (I have a dog) but I hate to see any animal mistreated. I know that area of London well, and it is quite a ‘rough’ district.
