Renegade & Oliver: Why is the Colour of this Food so Dark?

Hi everyone,

It’s me Rennie here today! My humans got us some new food today. 😀

Rennie: It looked a little different to my previous food from Almo Nature, much darker. So being suspicious before allowing my servants to put it in my favourite bowl I had to give this Yellowfin Tuna a good sniff and a little lick! Luckily it turned out to be EXTRA delicious.

Rennie: So you are wondering why it is so dark? All shall be revealed AFTER I had something to eat first…

Oliver: BROTHER! Did you plan to eat food without me again…?

Rennie: *yikes* Of course not… I was just being the guineapig to make sure it’s alright for you…

Oliver: I don’t believe you!

Oliver & Rennie: *in unison* Hurry up humans!!!! This smells too good and we are STARVING.

Rennie: *munches* This is yummy.

Oliver: Excuse me… I thought I was gonna go first!

Oliver: Rennie… move! No I don’t want to be spoon fed humans… I want into that bowl!!!

Oliver *pushes in* Right! My turn!!!!

Rennie: Ok… ok… I’ll let you try some o.o (He isn’t normally this pushy about food with me…)

Rennie: Eventually I got back into MY bowl… and oh boy was the food good!

Rennie: Have I left something for my siblings…?

Rennie: Does this qualify as having left something for them? ;o

Oliver: NO IT DOESN’T!!!! Humans… open another tin. 🙁

Rennie: Calm down… I am sure they will.. but meanwhile I think our readers are itching to find out why this food is so special. ;o

Rennie: So this Yellowfin Tuna is part of the Almo Nature HFC Wild Taste range (includes Jelly and Natural) and is a very special one at that! It is yellowfin tuna buzzonaglia. You are now probably wondering what buzzonaglia is? Well it’s made up of threaded parts connected with the central spine of the fishes. This particular part of the fish has high iron content and is low in fat. And if you are wondering what HFC means it’s made from meat originally fit for human consumption.

Oliver: Ah that explains the delicious smell and darker colour of the food (tho the humans may disagree on the smell aspect with their not so cat like noses. 😉 ) I’ve just checked out the Almo Nature post on this and apparently the Yellowfin Tuna has a particularly strong and intense flavour and smell. A “smell” that cats like but that can be surprising for humans not used to intense smells (in some Italian regions, buzzonaglia is used to make pasta sauces by our human friends).

Rennie: I see! I am also very impressed that the food is produced in Italy from sustainable sourced fish. In fact Almo Nature makes the following promises about their food:

  • Choosing to produce their new product in Italy
  • Only using tuna from stock that’s not overfished, complying with social and environmental criteria established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
  • Tracking every batch throughout its supply chain to ensure the fish they use is captured using marine ecosystem-friendly methods (i.e. pole & line fishing and purse seines on free schools, without the use of fish aggregating devices [FADs])
  • To not use tuna caught with longlines or driftnets, which result in high by-catch percentages
  • They use only suppliers able to prove their fish originate from fishing vessels certified as Dolphin-Safe by the Earth Island Institute.

Oliver: Indeed! Our friends over at Almo Nature care about our wellbeing as much as they do about the environment and other animals on this planet. In fact Almo Nature is the first pet food company to return 100%  of its profits to cats, dogs and biodiversity through the projects of the Fondazione Capellino

Rennie: And they make damn good and delicious food while they are at it. <3

I’ve not tried their cat food but considering RenRen and FreyFrey will literally scoff it all up before leaving the kitchen this must be delicious. 😉
