Young Stray Cat Found Covered in 11 Ticks

Young Stray Cat Found Covered in 11 Ticks

A six-month-old cat, found covered in 11 ticks and living in an outdoor cupboard, is now on the mend and looking for a new home.

The black and white stray, named Victoria, was discovered by a member of the public near Brent Cross in North West London. They were concerned about the condition she was in, so brought her into London-based animal welfare charity, Mayhew.

Mayhew’s Animal Welfare Officer, AJ Ford, said: “A member of the public had found friendly and affectionate Victoria and had taken her in overnight, but by the next morning they were worried about her health, so brought her into us.

“She was covered in ticks and looked terrified, so we made sure she was immediately seen by our on-site Vet Team.

“One of the first things we do when an animal is brought into us is check for a microchip so we can contact the owner as quickly as possible. Unfortunately Victoria was not microchipped or neutered.

“We strongly advise all pet owners to have their animal microchipped to significantly increase your chances of being reunited should the unthinkable happen and your pet becomes lost or is stolen.”

Victoria was given a thorough health check by Mayhew’s Vet Team at their on-site Community Vet Clinic, which offers affordable preventive treatment.

Mayhew’s Vet, Dr. Emily Richardson, said: “Apart from having to remove 11 ticks in total, Victoria was in a good overall condition and she had no other health concerns.

“She was treated with anti-parasite treatment and later neutered and vaccinated.”

After receiving medical care and attention from Mayhew’s Vet Team and love and socialisation from their Cattery Team, Victoria was soon back to her sociable and good-natured self.

As soon as she was ready, Victoria was put up for adoption and is now looking for the purrfect new home.

Acheer for the cmpassion and good sense of the person who brought her in. That she was friendly enought to be easily gotten but not fixed tells me someone got a kitten and dumped her when she went into heat and was a bother. She is adorable and I hope someone will give her a forever home soon.

Poor cat. Really sad to read this story. The cat look likes my neighbour cat, while the cat is fully protected by flea collar when his owner not at home, but poor Victoria just needs to endure a lot of pain. By the way, glad to see Victoria seem fine and healthy. Looks happy. She deserves the treatment and a very good place to stay.
