Overlooked senior ‘kitt-izen’ stars in charity’s Christmas tear-jerker

by Cats Protection

The UK’s feline welfare charity, Cats Protection, has released its annual Christmas animation which is sure to bring a tear to the eye of any cat lover.

This year’s animation, which can be found here, is based on the true story of mature moggy Kozal who found his forever home recently after waiting almost seven months to be adopted.

It shows him becoming slowly more dejected as he is overlooked in favour of other cats until someone finally comes along and adopts him.

The 16-year-old ginger puss was cared for at Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre in Sussex where he was overlooked by prospective owners until kind-hearted Jill Cash saw him featured in the local news and offered him a home.

“We adopted Kozal because he had that forlorn look on his face and we just wanted to give him a warm safe place to spend his OAP years,” said Jill.

“He settled in right away and made himself at home. He loves to sit in front of our french doors and watch the birds. He is a real feisty character and we are starting to recognise the different miaows he gives us.

“Kozal now has all four paws well and truly under the table – eating us out of house and home. We no longer use an alarm clock as he decides when we get up and serve breakfast!

“I’m so glad to have been able to give Kozal a lovely retirement home and would thoroughly recommend giving an older cat a chance. They have lots to offer and you’ll have adopted a cat that might have been overlooked for many months before finding its forever home.”

The charity is thrilled that Kozal is settled and happy in his new home in time for Christmas.

Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre Deputy Manager, Tania Marsh said: “Our staff and volunteers work hard to make every cat’s time with us as comfortable and happy as possible but it’s no substitute for a real home.

“We’re so glad Kozal has been adopted, although sadly we have many more cats like him who are frequently overlooked in favour of younger cats and kittens.

“We’d love to hear from anyone who is interested in offering an unwanted cat a home of their own.”

I know :-(. I was sitting in the office at lunch when I first watched it. People were rather amused when I started crying until those that love animals also watched it and encountered it made them feel the same…

What a wonderful animation it made me feel upset seeing him left all alone. When I helped at The Cats Protection I always thought it would be the kittens who would be my favourite but I just loved helping the older cats. When they first arrived you could see the spark had gone out in their eyes but once they got to trust you that beautiful twinkle in their eyes came back. I just love the oldies.x???
