Some cats seem to react more to catnip than others. My Friskie was an addict and went nuts around it. I almost had to put her in rehab. My other cat turned up her nose and didn’t pay much attention to it. I planted some in the yard once and every cat in the neighborhood came to visit. I had to pull it up.

Suzy the new cat (barely more than a kitten) has a catnip mouse she loves (actually, the second one after the first disappeared, but I suspect she thinks it’s the same) and it gets occasional rough treatment, but generally she just carries it around. That’s very rarely while I’m about, but if I go out for any time, it’s always been moved, often to the place where she’s been resting. It’s like her dolly.

Emma the older and much longer established cat would disdain a dolly, but can get very excited and rough with a catnip toy.
