Why Is Quality Cat Food Important?

If you’re like most people, then your cat is like a member of the family. You want that member of the family to eat food that is of the best quality. It might be tempting to get the cheapest cat food that you find in the store, but that usually means you get food that has ingredients that are of a low quality and don’t provide all of the nutrients that your cat needs. When you look at the ingredients of the cat food that you get, you want to see a higher percentage of the good products, such as grains and meat. Dry grains are usually a prominent ingredient in most cat foods. Try to find a cat food that has a higher percentage of proteins than sugars because cats can get diabetes from eating too much sugar in the food. A food that is more expensive will usually have more meat than grains, which means that it’s healthier for your cat. Most of the cheaper foods have more flavor added to them, which makes cats like them better than foods that are more expensive but have more meat in them.

Types Of Foods

When you go to the store to look for cat food, you’ll see bags of dry food and cans or pouches of wet food. Wet food is often less expensive, and while it is usually made with real meat, it can have too much protein. Older cats can usually process the extra protein better than younger cats, so you should avoid giving can cat food to cats younger than a year old. Dry food is usually roasted and doesn’t have as much water as food in cans. You can usually get a bag of dry food for a few dollars if your cat isn’t too picky, but you need to be aware of the ingredients. Dry food will usually last longer because you’re not going to give your cat a large amount at one time.

How To Find A Quality Food

One of the things that you need to look for when searching for the best cat food is the first ingredient. It should be some kind of meat. Since cats are carnivores, they rely on protein in their diet. Foods that have a meat listed as the first ingredient have a higher percentage of protein compared to a food that has a grain listed as the first ingredient.

If some of the ingredients are hard to pronounce of you don’t know what they are, then avoid getting that food for your cat. You don’t want to get a food that has a lot of dyes in it or a lot of preservatives, such as sodium nitrate or BHA and BHT. These dyes can sometimes cause illnesses in the cat, and the preservatives can alter the blood pressure and other blood levels in the animal. Some preservatives can damage the kidneys and the liver, just like preservatives and ingredients would in your body. It’s best to look for cat foods that are made of as many natural ingredients as possible to maintain a quality diet for your pet. Foods that have rendered fat, garlic and meat by-products should be excluded from your selections because you don’t know what is in the meat used.

When you find a few cat foods that are suitable to give your cat, look to see if there are any recalls. You should also review the customer satisfaction rating to see what other people think of the food and how their cats react. Cats need to eat food that has a higher amount of moisture because they usually don’t drink a lot of water during the day. You need to find foods that are easy to digest. Foods should also have few carbohydrates as they can make your cat gain too much weight. There usually isn’t one clear cat food that is at the top of the list. Once you start researching, you’ll be able to find a food that your cat enjoys and that is healthy for him.

One of our personal favourite cat food comes from Almo Nature as their alternative range for wet food is just meat/

I agree with you, that it is necessary to find a good quality of cat food. I will ad, that searching for quality food at the internet helps a lot and when you feel in doubt, if the food is good enough, contact the seller and ask for proofs of the food, next to reading about, what others say about it, like Marc wrote.
Dry food are processed food, no matter how we understand it, it is processed and in this process, a lot of good vitamin and minerals are lost.
In older times, it was recommended to use dry food for both cats and dogs to keep their teeth clean. Today this is proved wrong. Dry food can also break their teeth, if it has been dried just a little too much. Just think at a toast for us, too much toasting makes it dangerous and not very tasty either.

Don’t buy cat food that contains ash. It forms stones in a cat’s bladder that have to be surgically removed. That happened to our cat, and now he eats Rx food.

Omg we just went through this with our cat. My husband bought this super cheap food and it made him sick, we tried to just switch back but it made him very sensitive. Now we finally found the right food to keep him healthy. Hundreds of dollars in vet bills later.

Daisy Mae is well finicky. We find something she likes in wet food then she won’t eat it then we try something else she likes it for a while then sticks her nose up at it go back to something we gave her before she’ll eat it and the cycle keeps repeating itself. However, Daisy Mae itches a lot and we don’t know why. The vet really didn’t say much but gave her steroid shot and an antibiotic shot that helped for a month but she’s back to her old self. What can we do? Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.
