Events: A Cat Lovers preview teaser to Hyper Japan Festival 2017

Hi everyone,

It’s almost time for one of the most amazing japanese events of the year! HYPER JAPAN once again returns to London and will run this year from the 14th – 16th of July in the fantastic Tobacco Dock venue. 🙂

Some of you may remember our post-event post from last year’s summer festival showing of some of the amazing cat lover goodies that we found! Of course we are super excited to see what we can find for you all this year. 😀

With Japan being in full cat boom at the moment we expect there to be even more cool cat themed items this year.

Below some of the things we found at previous events:

Each year we go one of our personal highlights is to visit the stall of Doki Japanese Tableware. While offering plenty of traditional items they have been stocking a range of items – made in Japan – which appeal to cat lovers. But if you want to get some of these be quick as they generally are HUGELY popular and while Doki has plenty of store some of these may run out with the amount of people visiting the HYPER JAPAN festival.

Once again they will also be featuring the UK’s best Sake experience which is well worth spending the extra 15 pounds on.

In fact we are hoping to pick up some Sake to use with our Sake set that we bought at last year’s event. 🙂

Something we didn’t get to try in previous years was the Needle Felting experience which is back this year! We are hoping to get a chance to make some fuzzy little cats. 🙂

Being summer time we are also very much hoping for some fabulous japanese treats… namely ice cream! 😀

Of course there are plenty of things to do even for those of your friends that are not mad about cats and to give you a glimpse of what’s on please check out the event schedule here or the press release below:

Taking over London’s iconic Tobacco Dock venue from the 14th-16th July, HYPER JAPAN will transform the space into a unique celebration of music, food, drink, fashion and technology, drawing inspiration from both the traditional and future of Japan.

Expect a sensory overload as the music, smells, sights and tastes of this intriguing and exciting culture transport you to another world! With well-known performers, exhibitors, a food festival, and creative workshops to experience, HYPER JAPAN is the ultimate event for those eager to discover new, exciting trends and certified Japanophiles alike!

Fancy something futuristic with a nod to nostalgia? Taking to the HYPER JAPAN live stage will be self-produced chiptune songstress TORIENA, who writes, sings, programs and produces her own music using two Game Boys! Want to give it a go yourself? Sign up to the Chiptune workshop, hosted by local artist Shirobon and featuring TORIENA, where you can learn how to use your retro gaming device to create something magically musical. Want something a little edgier? 3-person unit REOL will also be taking to the stage to deliver their signature electronica sounds.

For something different try KAIEN – a musical performance unit bringing together dance, technology, video, and 3D holograms for a truly unique experience. Meanwhile KIRIE combines dance, music, and calligraphy to express traditional Japanese myths and stories using modern artistic techniques.

Looking for an interactive work of art? Tokyo Rickshaw incorporates a group of talented, eye catching acrobats, bringing a real rickshaw for people to clamber in to!

A visual spectacular, HYPER JAPAN will once again bring the events annual fashion show to life, showing off the very best in Kawaii style. For those with a penchant for manga or anime, the COSTest cosplay competition and COSParade showcase will evoke some impressive Japanese character inspired costumes that are not to be missed.

For those seeking out the more traditional side of Japan, guests can try their hand at doing calligraphy, origami and making authentic kokeshi dolls. Ideal for those who enjoy crafting with a twist!

Finally, foodies will not be disappointed. This year, HYPER JAPAN takes their culinary offering to a new level, bringing London’s Urban Food Fest to the show for the very first time! The hippest street-food vendors this side of Shoreditch are rocking up at the Tobacco Dock with their charming retro food trucks. Indulge and discover new food creations, fusing East and West with delicious effect. Fancy a Japanese inspired tipple? The Sake Experience 2017 will give visitors the chance to sample a variety of sake from big international brands, all the way to smaller, niche producers. Don’t forget to pop by the MIO Station to pick up a bottle of their sparkling sake!
