Cats have nine lives

Hello Katzenworld Fans,

Today I am back for a post on why Cats are said to have nine lives.

Time and time again we hear this phrase “Cats have nine lives” but have we ever dug deeper into searching why that is the case?

Are cats really able to die nine times and then come back to life? Or maybe, we are implying that they die and then reincarnate into another cat’s body, nine times? No? Have we ever thought why nine lives? Why not seven? Was it not a lucky number? Why don’t we say ten lives or five lives?

Here is the deal; I believe the term should be “Cats are just darn lucky.” The ability to jump and land without getting hurt from high places is just very lucky. I think the serious reason why they are famous in having nine lives is that they escape from deadly potential occurrences that any other animal would simple not. They run in front of cars and jump from high places or climb trees and yet come down safely with no problem.

Cats righting reflex is what causes them to be so bendable in landing, no matter what the situation is. Their backbones are so flexible and that allows them to be more daring. This increases their chances of survival giving them the famous “nine lives affect.”

We may now wonder why nine? No fret, my fellow WordPress readers.  I found this English proverb statement that says:

“A cat has nine lives. For three he plays, for three he strays, and for the last three he stays.”

This could be a possibility for why they say, “cats have nine lives.” Also as we all know that in ancient Greek cats were worshiped and considered to be magical. Well, they also believed that the number nine was referring to the trinity of all trinities, which makes it a mystic number. This follows through a more traditional and religious nature as well.

Hence, my dear readers, it is plausible to say that Cats do really have nine lives and good for them!

This is Pinky as documented by the BBC. She is a 28-year-old tabby cat from Lincolnshire. They believe that they may have found the oldest domestic cat in the world.

How old is your cat? Has your cat ever escaped a dangerous situation?

My babies are almost 8 and 8-1/2…relative young’uns! Neither has faced a dangerous situation while in my care, but Gibbs is always looking for trouble. Not sure of that counts…

My cat is going on 11 years old. When she was a kitten, she liked to explore a lot. One day she went to our basement that had a small hole in the wall. She got in the hole just fine but couldn’t get turned around to go out. We finally heard her meowing and dad finally rescued her from her situation. She still explores but then doesn’t every cat.
