Hello, Katzenworld Fans!
The world loves cats, but beyond the cute photos and memes, it would be nice to sometimes look further and pay attention to the more serious parts they play in our lives.
I am honoured to be here and would like to share with you some books that have been written about cats. These are fictional cat stories that would be nice to gift this Christmas.
Cat In The Hat written by Dr. Seuss’s book.
A mischievous anthropomorphic feline from Dr. Seuss’s book of the same name.
Captain Wow in The Game of Rat and Dragon- written by Cordwainer
A telepathic tom cat who works happily alongside humans to fight outer space monsters known as Dragons, Captain Wow perceives them like rats and is a successful slayer of these invaders.
Electra in Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats
One of the youngest female kittens in the tribe of Jellicle cats. Like many of the other young feline characters, she is in awe of the Rum Tum Tugger, a flirtatious roguish male main character.
The Master and Margarita written by Mikhail Bulgakov
The greatest cat in all of the literature might just be Behemoth, the gun-crazy, vodka-swilling, wisecracking feline — a kind of cracked Puss-in-Boots — that pals around with Satan in the 1930s Moscow of Bulgakov’s classic. He’s also, as his name suggests, rather enormous. And he won’t let you forget it.
Kafka on the Shore written by Haruki Murakami
Cats weave in and out of many of Murakami’s twisty, surreal worlds, but if you’re hunting for literary felines, or, like Nakata, can talk to them directly, this is the novel for you. And you may just learn something — after all, as they will tell you, “cats know everything, unlike dogs.”

If you like cozy mysteries, Xander de Hunter’s books are family-friendly stories from his Purrspective
During his youth, Xander “The Kamikaze” de Hunter gained fame in Catamundo’s kickboxing tournaments. By age 5, Xander organized techno-savvy cats and created Catamundo’s first interactive website, which was a reowsing success. Then, he and his family moved aboard sailing vessel, Whispurring Winds and Catamondo’s Council created a new office and Xander to be the first Sea Purrtector. Thus The Kamikaze organized his new position utilizing all the advanced technology available aboard: single side-band radio; satellite phones, marine radio and of course, the Internet, which he’d become skilled at.
In his official capacity, Kamikaze Xander assists cats wherever he advises his humans to anchor.
Great choices but I don’t see two of my favorites and need to mention them. One is “The Fur Person” by the inestimable May Sarton. Lovely, lovely book. The second is “Tailchaser’s Song” by Tad Williams, a very good read. As an honorable mention, I put up “The Cat Who Came for Christmas” by Cleveland Armory. Cheers, M

I read Tailchaser’s Song a long time ago as a kid. Loved it and need to track it down and read it again now.
I LOVE T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, and Edward Gorey’s art for it, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats derived from it! <3 🙂
A cat called Norton and its two sequels is a wonderful book about a real cat!:)

I only recognize “The Cat In The Hat” by Dr. Seuss. I did read a small book about cats and the book is called “The Artistic Cat:Praise, Poems and Paintings” A good cat book.
I got a copy of “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” for Christmas last year 🙂 Haven’t read it yet. I do love Erin Hunter’s “Warriors” series. And I just read a cute book called “The Nine Lives of Christmas”. And you can’t go wrong with “The Cat in the Hat” 🙂 And I now really want to check out “The Master and Margarita” and “The Game of Rat and Dragon”:D
I love Haruki! Thanks for telling me about this book! I know of several “cat books”, but I only know two in this list (Dr. Seuss and The Practical Cats…), so I am real pleased to be “educated”! Did you know that the NYC Broadway show CATS was inspired by this whimsical masterpiece of T.S. Eliot? Happy Christmas!
I admit I was surprised and a little disappointed to find out Grizabella the Glamour Cat was entirely a creation for the musical “Cats” rather than from Old Possum’s Book of Practical cats upon which the musical was based. I would’ve liked to read her story.
