It’s Playtime! Mia & Egg Review JML’s Cat’s Meow

When JML sent me the Cat’s Meow to test in exchange for my (or should I say, my cats’) honest opinion, I couldn’t wait to get it set up because I’d heard such good things about it from other cat owners.

In fact, Egg was interested before I even opened the box…

The Cat’s Meow is an interactive toy which uses a motorised ‘mouse tail’ underneath a canvas to imitate a prey animal, swinging back and forth with random changes in direction and speed (to stop clever kitties predicting where it’s going to go next).

All you’ll need are 3 x LR14/C batteries, which aren’t included with the toy. Once the box was opened and the exciting contents were revealed, Mia decided she’d have a look too…

While the girls were both interested in all the different parts, once it was put together and turned on, they weren’t so sure…

…but after a few minutes Mia couldn’t resist the lure of the little tail whizzing around under the canvas cover…

P1000381Even though Egg is usually the braver of the two when it comes to trying new things, this time she let Mia make sure it was safe first, edging closer bit by bit without actually touching the toy.

P1000536P1000557P1000594It’s not always the case that a product’s tagline (in this case, ‘The Toy Your Cat Can’t Resist!’) turns out to be true, but in my household it certainly is! Mia and Egg both love their Cat’s Meow, and could quite happily play with it for hours and hours (and hours). So far they haven’t yet got bored with it during a play session, and it’s only been us nasty humans switching it off that’s stopped their fun (sorry girls).

It’s so important for cat owners to make sure our cats’ minds and bodies get enough exercise (particularly indoor cats, as mine are), and the Cat’s Meow succeeds on both counts. Apart from providing hours of fun and entertainment while engaging their natural hunting instinct, both Mia and Egg will run over and around the canvas chasing after the pesky little ‘mouse’ until they’re exhausted, so it’s great exercise for them. Mia in particular will jump and throw herself around in excitement, which is no mean feat for a cat who’s known to be on the lazy side, so I’m delighted, and hoping it might show on the vet’s scales at her next check-up!

The Cat’s Meow costs £14.99, and you can buy it from JML here.

Emily

Glad to hear the cats enjoyed the toy. It sounds like a nice way to give them a bit of exercise, but one that doesn’t involve them dragging unwanted “presents” onto the doorstep. 🙂

Definitely! It’s much more civilised than receiving those lovely ‘presents’ 😉

They’re not Maine coon proof, branston dismantles ours, spare monkey has had to replace the drive band twice. ( branston is also good at dismantling DVD players and printers)

Oh no, ha ha! I’m hoping ours stays intact for a while, though Egg does have a habit of breaking toys 😉

Well, I’ve just ordered one for my not-very-playful cat. I sure hope she likes it, she needs some exercise now that the cool weather is here, and she’s reluctant to go outside.
