Some of you may have read this story in the papers already but for those that missed it we thought it would be good to cover it. 😀

The foreign office here in the UK adopted a lovely black and white cat called Palmerston from Battersea Cats and Dogs home! His main duties in the Foreign office will be the reduction of mice!

He has been named after Lord Palmerston:

The cat is named after Lord Palmerston, who was apparently well-liked and was the oldest Prime Minister in history to take office for the first time, at the age of 71.

The big question remaining is will he make friends with his neighbour Larry? Who is resident cat at 10 Downing street!

But Larry was the best, and got fired for being lazy and not accomplishing his duties as the chief mouse reducer. Larry was always found to be strolling or sleeping.
Well let’s see how the competition goes.

Palmerston was famous, but probably had more enemies than friends. One thing he’s remembered for is that when the inhabitants of the town of Rugeley, Staffordshire, were so hurt by the extensive publicity about their local celebrity, repeat murderer Dr Palmer that they petitioned the government to change the name of their town, Palmerston replied that they could, provided they named it after him – that is, as Palmerston.
